Pudleston Court, a Grade II listed building, stands as a striking example of mid- to late-19th century architecture—an era when it was fashionable for wealthy industrialists to commission grand country estates as enduring symbols of their success.
Originally built in 1846 for Lancashire coal baron Elias Chadwick, the mansion was designed by Liverpool architect J. T. Brearley in an opulent Tudor-Gothic style. Constructed from coursed pink sandstone with slate roofs and embattled parapets, the design reflected both the wealth and ambition of its original owner. The Chadwick family remained custodians of the estate for several decades.
Over the centuries, Pudleston Court has evolved through many chapters. During the Second World War, it served as a convalescent home for wounded servicemen under the British Red Cross—famously hosting author James Herriot during his recovery. In the 1950s, the estate entered a new phase as a school run by the local authority.
During the 1990’s, the estate entered a new and exciting chapter under the ownership of Albert Heijn, the renowned Dutch entrepreneur and former head of the Albert Heijn supermarket empire. With a deep appreciation for the estate’s heritage and potential, Heijn invested significantly in the restoration and revitalisation of Pudleston Court and its surrounding buildings
In more recent history, The Sideras family brought a new lease of life to Pudleston Court by becoming the first to open the estate to holidaymakers. They established the original holiday accommodation business on the grounds, building two stunning barn conversions complete with private swimming pools. Their vision laid the foundation for Pudleston Court’s evolution into a unique countryside destination, combining luxury with rural charm.
Under the care of the new lady of the manor, the estate is entering an exciting new chapter, with a vision to transform Pudleston Court into an exclusive boutique resort offering unforgettable experiences within its historic gates. We are currently embarking on a significant investment in guest facilities, designed to elevate this special place while preserving its timeless charm and captivating history.

Sustainability on the Estate
At Pudleston Court, we’re deeply aware of our environmental footprint and are committed to doing our part to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and protect the beautiful countryside that surrounds us.
A major step in our sustainability journey is our biomass heating system, which serves the upper section of the estate. Fuelled by wood pellets sourced from UK suppliers within our region, this system provides heating and hot water to five properties, the main house, and three swimming pools—significantly lowering our carbon output.
In addition, our extensive solar panel field generates clean energy for the estate, with surplus power fed back into the national grid—supporting the wider community and reducing dependence on non-renewable sources.
For guests arriving by electric vehicle, our Keba EV charger is also proudly carbon neutral, ensuring your stay is as eco-friendly as it is comfortable.
Sustainability is at the heart of our vision for Pudleston Court—honouring the past while protecting the future.
